Süssmund Kaffee was founded in 2014 by Nikolaus Hartmann after he realized that his vision of roasting coffee gently, according to its location and processing, was gaining traction. He decided to give up his career as an architect and devote himself entirely to coffee. Originally from the financial sector, Norbert Rieberer has been part of Süssmund since 2018. The two are united by their passion for exceptional coffee and their shared understanding of ethical business practices and sustainable production.

Central to specialty coffee are the trade in outstanding coffee quality, fair payment to coffee farmers, and a transparent production and supply chain. These cornerstones form the basis of our corporate philosophy and thus our business model.
Specialty coffee can only be called specialty coffee when the interplay of ideal microclimates, specific soil composition, and the utmost care in production result in outstanding flavors. According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), specialty coffee must score more than 80 points on a 100-point scale.

Süssmund gently roasts their coffee in a handcrafted drum roaster from Greece. This produces more complex aromas and fewer stomach-churning acids than a fast, industrial roasting process at high temperatures.
To ensure that the coffee's origin and varietal aromas are not lost, they develop a unique roasting profile for each coffee. With 800 possible aromas, coffee has more flavors than wine. They aim to bring these aromas to life and raise consumers' awareness of coffee's diverse flavors.
