OUR JOURNEY SO FAR: FOUNDATIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY
We are building MEK•IDIM on principles of sustainability and ethical engagement from day one. Here's what we've established as our foundation:
OUR BEANS &
OUR FARMERS
RADICAL TRANSPARENCY AT ORIGIN
Our commitment begins where the coffee grows. We believe in honoring the hands and lands that cultivate our exceptional beans.
-
We only choose beans that are directly traded, ensuring fairer prices for farmers, often significantly above market rates. This means farmers receive a living income and can invest in their communities and sustainable practices, fostering long-term, trusting partnerships.
-
A significant portion of our baseline coffee collection is Bio-certified (AT-BIO-301), ensuring cultivation without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, promoting biodiversity and soil health.
-
We actively seek out and support producers with strong social initiatives. For instance:
Our Nicaraguan partner, Ulrich Salamun & Sabine Khalil, built a kindergarten in La Corneta, showcasing a holistic approach to sustainable coffee cultivation.
Our Rwandan partner, the Women Coffee Extension cooperative, empowers widowed and vulnerable women farmers through direct support and community development.
-
Our 220g coffee is presented in elegant amber glass apothecary jars. These are designed as beautiful "design objects" for your home, encouraging reusability and circularity through our 1kg refill options. Amber glass also provides superior UV protection for the coffee.
-
Our products are nestled in a unique pouch crafted from repurposed coffee sacks (jute). This process not only honors the bean's journey and drastically reduces textile waste, but it supports a vital social mission.
The stitching and finishing of every pouch is handled by WienWork, an integrative workshop in Vienna. This collaboration directly supports meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that every piece is created with care, intention, and profound social value.

Our outer packaging, the elegant drawer box, is made from sturdy cardboard with a fine linen texture. These boxes are designed for reusability and are sourced with sustainability in mind.
-
Our coffee pouches are made from composite materials necessary for optimal coffee freshness. While not fully recyclable due to their multi-layered structure, they are produced from FSC®-certified forests, reclaimed material, and other controlled sources. This certification confirms adherence to environmental and social standards across the supply chain. We prioritize European production for these pouches to ensure low transport emissions.

OUR
ENGAGEMENT
CONTRIBUTING TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE
We believe in giving back and actively contributing to social well-being.
-
We are proud to partner with the WELL:FAIR Foundation. Wellfair.ngo is a non-profit organization dedicated to implementing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects primarily in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, focusing on improving access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education. Their "100% Promise" ensures that every donation directly reaches those in need, as all administrative and operational costs are covered by other means.
-
We commit to donating 5% of MEK•IDIM's net profit from all sales to the WELL:FAIR Foundation. This contribution is calculated based on our net quarterly earnings. This ensures our contribution grows directly with our success, fostering a sustainable and impactful long-term partnership.
-
We are committed to transparently communicating our partnership. All public communication regarding this partnership will be coordinated with WELL:FAIR. We look forward to regular updates on project progress to share with you as our customer, demonstrating the tangible impact of your purchase.
OUR SHARED GOAL: ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER FOR 100,000 PEOPLE
At MEK•IDIM, we believe in the power of every single contribution. With each purchase of our products, you help us achieve our grand goal: to provide 100,000 people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania, with access to clean water.
This long-term objective requires a total donation of €5,000,000. We track our progress transparently and invite you to be part of this journey.
OUR PROGRESS OVERVIEW:
OUR GOAL
FOR THE FUTURE
CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENTS
Our journey towards greater sustainability and impact is ongoing. We are committed to continuous improvement:
-
We will continue to explore innovative, closed-loop systems for all our packaging components, pushing towards zero waste and maximizing material reuse.
-
We aim to further invest in and expand direct support for social and environmental projects at the coffee origins, beyond fair wages, exploring initiatives like reforestation or water conservation.
-
As MEK•IDIM grows, we aspire to expand our support for social causes through additional partnerships and initiatives that align with our values.
